DAYTIME NEWS REPORTER

Woof Boom Radio, Muncie, IN is seeking a Day Time News Reporter.  This position can be structured as part time or full time.

Experience in the News profession and/or post-secondary degree in News or Journalism is preferred but not required.  In this position, the Day Time News Reporter will gather news by attending press conference or similar events and breaking news situations.  The Day Time News Reporter will also be responsible for writing copy and delivering the stories on our radio stations and social media platforms as needed.  Computer skills, digital audio, editing, and the understanding of local radio news are a must.  Apply with cover letter, resume, news story writing examples, and audio sample of your delivery – preferably using “sound” as part of the stories:

FULL TIME NEWS DIRECTOR / MORNING ANCHOR

Part Time Board Op

Now’s the time to be a part of a great Indiana owned and operated company that uses its voice to build our community. Woof Boom Radio (WHBU, WMUN, WERK, MAX, BLAKE, and WLBC) is looking for a reliable, hard-working, committed person to join our team on a part-time basis. This can be an entry-level position for someone who has an interest/passion for the radio industry, but Industry experience is a plus. You’ll be trained on producing our live on location broadcasts and will occasionally represent our group at community events. Expect 5-15 hours a week. Those will vary, but will be focused on nights and weekends. Flexibility is important. Starting pay is $8/hour. Valid Indiana driver’s license required, and other employment checks are required before hiring.

First, let’s look at the internships offered at Woof Boom Radio:

Business – The business intern’s responsibility is to assist in the daily and monthly duties for the Business Department, including the Traffic Office and Reception. Sales – This is an interactive and dynamic internship that relies on the intern to be self-motivated and disciplined, with a passion for learning. The intern will create sales marketing materials that will be used to upsell current clients and sell prospects advertising campaigns on our radio stations. The intern will go on actual sales calls with account executives to learn about the sales process. We look at our internship program as a developing ground for future employees — that’s not to say all interns will get hired here, but one of our goals is to see how many responsibilities an intern can handle, on the chance an employment opportunity becomes available. Requirements

  •     Current college student (junior, senior, post-graduate).
  •     Internship must be taken for credit.
  •     Familiarity with Woof Boom Radio and East Central Indiana market is preferred.
  •     Previous radio or other media experience (school, internship, or professional) preferred.
  •     Responsibility, judgment, organization, dependability, promptness, initiative, creativity, and efficiency are key to the success of interns along with the ability to handle deadlines, writing, and audio production.
  •     Personal transportation required.

Duration/Hours – **All Internships are unpaid**

  • Fall (@ August – November)
  • Winter (@ November – February)
  • Spring (@ February – May)
  • Summer (@ May – August)
  • Sales/Web Promotions Assistant Internships have flexible schedules and are filled on an as needed basis.

Results
During the internship, interns gain exposure to the realities of working in radio and gain exposure to related fields. Interns have the opportunity to prove themselves and determine if radio is a career for them. Interns make friends and contacts that they can network with as they start their career. After interns complete their term at Woof Boom Radio, some return to school and share their new experiences. Other interns volunteer or temp at the station. A few become part-time employees. Occasionally, interns obtain full-time positions at Woof Boom Radio. Many interns take their experiences to other media outlets where they begin rewarding careers.
